This is the substance of a communication with our friends about their current situation.
Dear servants of God John and Janette,
Greetings and thank you so much for your very wonderful and inspiring letter. We are happy to be brought back to you once again and we have learnt that our heavenly Father has a plan and programme for us and the ministries He has called and ordained us to serve.
Yes indeed i am the very Pastor of Light Hosanna Church in Ogembo, Gucha kenya. It was a surprise too to receive your letter a blessing to hear from you.
We are an independent ministry with a total of (at the moment) 200 members and we are divided into two congregations, one is Light and the other other one is Hosanna together they are Light Hosanna Church. I am the Pastor of the church, i am married to Sister Damaris Moraa and the Lord has blessed us with two children a boy and a girl, Tossell and Vane 4 and 6 years respectively. My wife helps me wonderfully with the ministry and the orphans whom we are taking care of. The situation we are in right now is that spiritually the Lord is indeed moving and blessing the work because we are seeing souls saved, the sick healed, the heart broken being given hope and the church is multiplying as we keep our Evangelism and outreach efforts.
Physically we are struggling with the inflation in our country, because our economy was adversely affected following the post elections violence which gripped our country last year where more than 5,000 people lost their lives, 300,000 families were displaced, food farms and stores were destroyed, churches were torched and, about 1,500 people were burnt alive in churches. Women and young girls were assaulted sexually, property was looted, and since then there has been much hunger in Kenya because the farmers on whom the country depended for food were either displaced or killed in the violence. Prices of food have been going up each day and as i am writing to you most families are starving especially the widows, the orphans, and the less fortunate in community.
A tin of corn now costs Kshs 100 up from Kshs 35, a tin of rice costs Kshs 150 up from kshs 80, a kilo of sugar costs Kshs 120 up from kshs 60, a tin of beans costs Kshs 200 up from Kshs 100, a tin of cokking oil costs kshs 186 up from Kshs 105. The prices of fuel and Kerosene have also gone up terribly and most people walk by foot to their various places of work or some have removed their vehicles from the roads because they can no longer afford fuel. The situation with the orphans here and the widows with us is indeed hopeless, there is much hunger and with a lot of money you only buy a handful of stuff.
Our needs right now are indeed pressing and demanding. First and foremost we need food for the orphans here, the widows whose husbands were killed in elections clashes and were left without anything and even widowers whose wives were killed and were left homeless. We need a home for the orphans for the one we have is temporal and not up to standard for people to stay in; we need Bibles for the church both in English and in our own Dialect{ EKEGUSII} for the brethren who do not read or understand English; we need a farm to hire where we can be growing our own food because buying is very expensive; we need at least two cows for the children to get milk.
Yes we know that we are the body of Christ, sons and daughters of the same Father and we need each other to edify each other and to care and pray for each other.
May the Lord do unto you the same way you have prayed for us and may He guard you and guide in you as you serve Him. may He grant all the desires of your hearts so that you may be a blessing to His body. The good work He has started among us he will not leave it. May you too be kept from any schemes of the evil one.
We bless you and we hope to hear from you. May all His best be yours.
Hope to hear from you soon.
In His love and Grace,
Pastor Mark.
